Famous Water Skiers: Chris Parrish And Scot Ellis

Millions of Americans today enjoy the sport of water skiing. Who is at the top of rallying all this excitement? The professional water skiers of today include Scot Ellis, Chris Parrish, Jamie Beauchesne, Danyelle Bennett, Regina Jaquess and Kriti Overton-Johnson.



Scot Ellis

Scot Ellis was born on June 14, 1971 in Laurel, Mississippi. He picked up water skiing at the age of four and quickly started competing at the age of eight. In 2003 at the Master's competition he pulled second place in the men's ski flying category and in 2005 at the Moomba Master's competition managed to capture third place in the men's jumping category. Currently he is a professional water skier who holds the record for the U.S. National Men's Jumping at 208 feet. His best performances include 5 at 38 off in slalom, 230 feet in jumping and 288 feet in flying.


Chris Parrish

This professional water skier was born on January 19, 1979 in Destin, Florida. As a tiny tot, Chris began to water ski at the age of two and began to compete at the age of seven. In 2006 at the U.S. Open, Parrish managed to grab the Championship in Men's Slalom and at the Water Ski National Championships, he also nailed the Open Men's Slalom Championship. He is currently the Men's World Record holder in slalom and his best is 1 ½ at 43 off.


Jamie Beauchesne

Born on April 30, 1977 in Concord, New Hampshire, Jamie Beauchesne started water skiing at six years old and began competing at twelve years old. In 2006 at the U.S. Open Water Ski Championships he placed second in the Men's Slalom competition and snagged the Men's Slalom Championship in the Princes Pro-Am. He is currently a student and holds the Slalom record in the Eastern region at 2 ½ at 41 off. His bests are 1 at 43 in slalom and 171 feet in jumping.


Danyelle Bennett

Danyelle Bennett was born on July 15, 1987 in Zachary, Louisiana. She became a water skier at the age of two and began to compete when she was only five years old. She is currently a student, but has managed to compete in the 2006 Pan American Water Ski Championships in the U.S. 17-20 members and U.S. Elite Water Ski Team members categories, placing as a gold medalist in both divisions. Her bests include 4 at 35 in slalom, 5,880 point in tricks and 128 feet in jumping.


Regina Jaquessr

Born in June in 1984 at Atlanta, Georgia, this water skier attends the University of Louisiana at Monroe pursuing a Pharmacy degree and holds 39 U.S. National records. She has seventy medals, fifty two of which are gold, and was the youngest person ever to compete in the U.S. Open at twelve years old. She managed to place third in tricks and later when she was sixteen during that competition. Competing in the U.S. Open, she was the youngest ever to attain the Overall Title. In the 2006 U.S. Open at Okahumpka, Florida, Regina placed first in every category: slalom, tricks, jumping and overall. Her best include 3 at 10.75m in slalom, 8,490 points in shortboard and 171 feet in jumping.


Kristi Overton-Johnson

Kristi was born on February 16 in 1970, in Greenville, North Carolina and began water skiing at the age of four. Throughout her career as a professional water skier, she captured every title possible: World, World Cup, Masters and U.S. Open Championship. For the past fourteen years she has been the world's record holder in slalom with her best score of 1 at 41 off. After 80 professional victories, she has been ranked number one in the world nine times. Kristi is now retired after thirty years of professional competition.
